Print This ArticleCan Islamic terrorism be defeated?Dr. HabiraThe first step to defeating terrorism is to understand the mindset of the terrorist. This mindset can be understood existentially by those who have lived long enough in their company in cultures that breed terrorism. I have lived amongst the world’s most devout and fanatical Muslims for around forty years, frequently met terrorists both when they were fighting against Russia and then when they turned against America . Even when they were focusing against Russia and receiving payments from American agencies, they used to openly declare that their next target would be the United States because to them, all `infidels’ were the same. The mindset of a terrorist can be explained only in terms of extreme devotion, emotionality, blind loyalty, prejudicial reverence, and highest sanctity attached to Muhammad, Mecca , Medina , Islam, the Ka’aba, and the Qur’an. For some extremely emotional reasons, strictly related to one’s childhood experiences and guilt associated sexuality[1], the reverential images of these entities get fixated in the mindset at a very early age, usually just close to the beginning of puberty, and, in an emotional crisis, take precedence over natural human instincts[2]. If such a person survives his youth without killing himself, he would be unlikely to become a suicide attacker in his middle or old age. Once through his youth, if he is unable to get rid of his fixation, he is more likely to motivate others to engage in extreme violence. To cure such persons of these affective disorders, they have somehow to be truthfully shown that Muhammad, Mecca , Medina , Islam, the Qur’an, and the Ka’aba are not infallible and valuable above humanity. The stupor, hypnotic state, or mesmerism that blinds the devout and the terrorist alike can be eliminated by the cognitive destruction of the said concepts or the permanent physical destruction of the Ka’aba. However, I am not suggesting the direct bombing of the Ka’aba because this will result in unimaginable global violence in the short run. Ka’aba has historically been destroyed many times only by Muslims fighting each other. Because Saudi wealth is seen by all Muslims as signs of God’s protection of Islam, Ka’aba, Medina and Mecca , the most effective way out is for the world to stop paying billions to the Saudis for their oil so that Islam in Saudi Arabia could begin to destroy itself with its own hands. The `silver bullet’ in this war is Islam’s ability to destroy itself but the world keeps saving Islam by buying Saudi oil. Islamic terrorism can be defeated by using the methods of cognitive therapy, and by abandoning the propping up of Islamic divine symbols in Saudi Arabia through western money and technology. The regular military role in this war is not the least as significant as that of cognition, perception, and revelation of the truth about Islam. Western military power would be of no use against the very long-term and slow but steady Islamist advance from within western countries. The western Islamists are not likely to listen to the voice of reason so long as Mecca , Medina and the Ka’aba stay wealthy and strong and they are allowed to sit in comfortable mosques brainwashing the headstrong and emotional among the western Islamist youth. The key to defeating terrorism lies in the economic and political manipulation of Saudi Arabia . Because the oil interests have so far not allowed the west to disturb Saudi Arabia , consequently, the Islamist belief that God protects Mecca and Medina and keeps it rich is being reinforced beyond measure, serving as a morale booster to the motley terrorists. The fact is that the vast majority of terrorists want to gather in Saudi Arabia and they hate the United States under the latent and tacit belief that US has kept the Al-Saud tribe in power. If the Al-Saud tribe loses power, most terrorist organizations will rush to Saudi Arabia to grab their seat of power and thus fight each other. Therefore:
In addition, the pros and cons of the following strategies in the west may be debated: Removing Islam from the category of religions and justly placing it as a dangerous
political movement. For information or comments, write to Feedback@IslamReview.com |
